Grace Erickson

Social Media Coordinator

I graduated from Iowa State University majoring in Apparel Merchandising and Design, emphasis in merchandising, with a minor in Journalism. I am currently working as a Social Media Coordinator for Maggie Sottero Designs, a bridal brand. I found my passion for social media by accident. I wasn’t supposed to be the Content Creation Director for TREND Magazine, a fashion, beauty and lifestyle publication at ISU, but my Editors-in-Chief saw something in me and gave me the push I needed to step out of my comfort zone and try something completely new to me.

After a month into the social media journey, it was clear that I had found my passion for this field. I loved seeing my ideas develop from my mind to a concept to a post. The ability to connect and build relationships with followers through a mutual interest is so rewarding and it drives me to work harder, further enhance my skills, and be more relatable and transparent through my postings and messages.

Throughout this page, you’ll find work I have created during my time at Maggie Sottero Designs, TREND Magazine, and my social media internship, as well as projects I have submitted in various courses at ISU.

Social Media Internship

J-B Evergreen Media | Remote | Summer 2021

During my first internship, I was able to learn how a social media agency works with multiple clients at once and understands their different brand voices and personalities and how to market them on various social platforms. I’ve had the opportunity to create multiple Instagram stories using Canva, develop the schedule for a photoshoot, learn how to write email pitches and connect with influencers, and create a brand media kit to send out in emails to influencers.

I worked for a social media agency and my supervisor had multiple clients for whom she managed their social accounts. I helped with two different clients; a relationship expert/counselor and a supplement brand. Throughout the entirety of my internship, I was assigned various tasks to complete daily. These tasks included sending ten emails (5 per client) to brands and influencers with a collaboration pitch, designing 6 Instagram Stories each week (3 per week) and engaging with the clients’ followers on Instagram, Pinterest and TikTok.

After about a month and a half in to the internship, I met with my supervisor to discuss a couple projects I could complete by the end of August. We decided that I would create a photoshoot schedule and a media kit to send in collaboration emails. My supervisor sent me a list of the tasks needed to be completed in a certain time frame and I utilized Google Sheets to organize the schedule. Great news! My supervisor let me know that the photoshoot was a great success and the schedule really helped them stay on track.

My biggest and final project was creating a media kit for a client who produces various supplements. I have never seen nor made a media kit myself so this was a very exciting and challenging task for me! My supervisor sent me the list of information that needed to be included in the slides and then I hit the ground running. I used Canva to create the slideshow (down below) and Photoshop to clean up the background of each supplement bottle (these are covered due to an NDA agreement). I was very proud of the work I did and my supervisor was impressed as well. It’s an honor knowing that a slideshow I created will be sent to so many influencers everyday.

I learned a lot throughout the duration of my internship. Coming in to this, I didn’t know what to expect and I was little overwhelmed my first few days. It was tough for me knowing I had to complete the internship remotely due to COVID-19 because I had high hopes I would be in-person. However, this just made my communication and organizational skills that much better because in order to complete tasks accurately, I had to be in constant communication with my supervisor and productive throughout the day.
